Have You Gotten a “Round Tuit”?

Have you ever received one of those pocket-sized wooden tokens inscribed with the word “TUIT”? For some, it was the ultimate dad-joke: whenever someone said, “I’ll get around to it,” they’d be handed a round “TUIT” with the gentle reminder that now there was nothing stopping them.

It may not be the height of comedy, but it makes a lasting point.

As your Regional Staff, we’d like to offer our own version of a “Round Tuit,” not as a punchline, but as a practical resource. We’ve compiled a checklist of important documents, forms, and routine tasks that congregations and ministries often mean to address “someday.” These are easy to put off—things like updating a password list, filing a required report, or backing up key records—until that critical moment when they can’t be found.

Our goal isn’t to guilt or scold. We’ve simply repeatedly witnessed how motivated churches can run into roadblocks at crucial moments like when selling property, applying for grants, registering for online giving, or confirming tax-exempt status. Most often, the missing piece is a document that’s outdated, misplaced, or never actually prepared.

To help you avoid those headaches (and keep ministry momentum), we’re encouraging every congregation and ministry to:

  • Locate and securely store key organizational documents

  • Calendar annual reporting and important legal and denominational deadlines

  • Practice sound procedures for financial and administrative controls

These actions won’t make a community more loving, Christlike, or Spirit-filled. But tending to these routine matters proactively and consistently clears away avoidable obstacles. It allows the core work of loving God and neighbor to move forward, unhindered, wherever our mission intersects with government, nonprofit, or denominational requirements.

Yours truly,

Rev. Dr. Andy Mangum

Regional Minister and President
