Annual Men’s Cabinet Met on January 7-8, 2011
On the weekend of January 7-8, 16 men gathered at Disciples Crossing in Athens, TX for their annual planning meeting. Executive officers, area presidents, members-at-large, and CCSW constituency representatives were led by President Bryan Edwards, from San Antonio. They spent about 20 hours addressing items for CCSW men that will occur over the next two years.

A review of the 2010 Annual Brownwood Retreat, planning for retreats in 2011 and 2012 were major discussion items. Excitement was evident in preparing for the September 16-18, 2011 retreat. With a theme of “The Church has Left the Building”, two ministers who have concentrated on Mission activities outside the local church have been selected as keynoters. They are: Rev. Feliberto Pereira, Southwest Good Samaritan Ministries director and Rev. Laurie Feille, Senior Minister of Azle Christian Church, Azle Texas.
Mission Work Project Coordinator Jimmie Muckleroy presented plans for the major project at the Disciples Crossings Camp during March 7-12, 2011. It was noted that the General Church’s International Day of Pancakes will be on March 19th. Many CCSW churches have held pancake or other fund-raising events for Disciples Men mission projects. In past years, General Church pancake grants to our Southwest Regional Men’s projects have provided over $49,000, including a $7,100 grant for the 2008 Southwest Good Samaritan Ministries project. This is part of about $425,000 provided to other Disciples ministries across the U.S. All regional men’s groups are encouraged to participate in pancake fund-raisers during the year. Finally, area and constituent representatives gave reports of exciting ministries being carried out by men all over the Southwest Region.
Disciples Men from FCC, Burnet in Action
For the last two years our group has been selling Tamales (not pancakes) at the Bertram TX, old Tyme Christmas event in Bertram, Texas. We started in 2009 and raised just over $300.00 dollars net and in 2010 we raised $417.00 net as the result of selling 70 dozen tamales. We have decided to make the event an annual fund raiser for " Disciples Men Cookin' for Mission". For the last two years we have sent 50% of the money to the Pancake Project and given 50% to Regional Mission direct.
The enclosed picture shows our cookin' team, left to right, Ron Rosignol, BBA Area Men' President, Bobby Moore, Deacon at FCC Burnet, Ernie Spiekerman, Associate Minister at FCC Burnet and Chuck Orr past BBA Area Men's President and current Vice Moderator for FCC Burnet. These men also work on the Regional Mission Trips and attend our area and regional retreats. The Men's group at FCC Burnet has a monthly breakfast and average about 15 of our men present. We are always finding ways to serve God in Burnet and outside our own community. I am blessed to be a part of this wonderful ministry. Ron Rosignol, BBA Disciples Men President
