About the Area Ministries
Area Ministries Are Key to Mission
The Southwest Region is organized into eight areas and one district.
Each area and district serve as centers for pastoral care, administration, and programming within the region as described below. To learn more about our areas, please visit the Area Ministry links in the Area Ministry menu.
Serve As Pastoral Centers
- Pastoral care of congregations, especially in times of transition and crisis
- Provide pastoral care of ministers serving congregations
- Assist congregations and ministers in the search and call process
- Provide opportunities for spiritual growth and nurture for ministers
Serve As Administrative Centers
- Share mutual accountability for ministry in the Southwest region
- Develop and oversee their own budgets, call their own area ministers, and provide an office to serve as accounting and record center for the area
- Interpret and stimulate congregational support for mission and Disciples outreach
- Plan and encourage mission trips and receive visits from Disciples missionaries
- Develop camp and conference facilites
- Work with region, congregations, and general units to develop new congregations
- Provide administration of licensed minister process in collaboration with regional and area committees on ministry
Serve As Programming Centers
- Facilitate programming for men, women, and youth
- Facilitate programming for camps, conferences, and retreats for all ages
- Facilitate leadership development and spiritual life events
- Encourage congregations to form partnerships for worship, evangelism, and mission
