The View From Broadway

Well, okay, it’s Broadway in Tyler, Texas, but it’s still a great view!  There is a growing sense of connection in the Northeast Area, and I pray that it will only increase in the days, weeks, and months ahead.  There is also an air of excitement around the Area, as we continue to pray and listen carefully for God’s direction in our ministry and mission.  Some examples:

Ø      a growing number of persons interested in ministering to the imprisoned and their families, as well as ex-offenders (did you know there are 112 jails and prisons in the state of Texas?!), who are beginning to meet together to plan what type of ministry is most appropriate for our Area;

Ø     a group of children’s ministers who are willing to meet together and email one another, sharing thoughts and ideas about strengthening the children’s ministries going on in our local congregations;

Ø     the enhancement of our Licensed Ministers’ Education Track (officially the “School for Nurture and Education in Ministry”), utilizing Brite faculty and other experts in the field to serve as teachers in our classes;

Ø     an on-going conversation among several “technology-savvy” folks concerning improving electronic communication in our Area;

Ø     an Area-wide mission trip that is being planned for November 13^th – 16^th at Southwest Good Samaritan Ministries;

Ø     a “new way” of doing our annual Area Assembly and Leadership Event, where the focus is on one keynoter, and more information is received during the business session of the Assembly;

Ø     and speaking of “new,” the New Day, New Direction emphasis in the Region is growing, and under the capable leadership of our two task force representatives (Susan Ellison and Jeff Billings), we will be offering information and education in the near future concerning the future of the Christian Church in the Southwest.

Yes, the view is great here in the NEA, and getting better by the day!  Come on and join the party!
